Asynchronous Online Teaching
The Faculty Support Center Instructional Design team is happy to provide you with information about teaching asynchronous online courses. It is designed to help you with the resources needed to successfully develop and serve online courses that meet both college, student, and your needs.
The fully asynchronous course is the most difficult type of class to design and teach. It takes extremely careful backwards design and planning to anticipate and make up for the questions and concerns that are often taken care of off the cuff in real time. These courses also require certain technologies and additional engagement methods to create and maintain an engaged learning community without the advantages of synchronous meetings.
This LibGuide shows the characteristics of fully online courses, outlines best practices derived through empirical research, and provides practical guidance for teaching outside of real time that is useful for all kinds of faculty.
Please let the instructional designer know about additional resource materials that can be added to this site. We encourage user contributions as our collective skills and knowledge grow and as our needs at Cochise College evolve.Photo Credit: Photo by Samantha Borges on Unsplash
